Hike up Rigi

Rigi was the first mountain over 1000 metres that I ever hiked up, so it’s definitely one I like going back to!

The first time I hiked on Rigi I only went about halfway up, starting at Küssnacht am Rigi, then I went again, started earlier in the day and made it to the top. Since then I went to the top of the mountain by train a few times, went for some easy hikes around the top, and hiked down to Vitznau once in the snow. Every time has been worth the trip, and it’s very easy to get to because of the excellent transport connections.

I took a couple of trains and a bus to Vitznau, but depending on the time of day you can take the boat from Luzern to Vitznau, where the hike starts, and it’s a really lovely boat ride!

The hike itself isn’t difficult as such but it’s very steep and continues uphill almost the whole time. I also had about 3.5 litres of water during the hike - there isn’t much shade so if it’s a sunny day it’ll be a warm hike!
